Freddie de Wall strengthens the management team of FKP Scorpio in Hamburg from May as Chief Operating Officer

Hamburg, 27 April 2017 – With effect from 1 May, Freddie de Wall shall take up the newly-created position of Chief Operating Officer (COO) at the Hamburg headquarters of the international promoter FKP Scorpio Konzertproduktionen GmbH. Two of de Wall’s main focal points in the future will be transnational project development and coordination, and the strategic development and expansion of new business fields, both domestically and abroad. In addition, he will be responsible for the continuous further development of the organisational and communications structure of the entire company, and for the control and optimisation of business processes and internal workflows.

Most recently, Freddie de Wall was co-owner and managing director for 13 years of “Heinrich & de Wall / Artist & Music Management”, and played a decisive role there in developing artists’ careers, such as that of Roger Cicero. In all, however, de Wall has more than 35 years’ experience in the music business: After training with the former Hamburg concert agency SUNRISE, where he also worked as a booker and road manager, and jobs with Phonogram and WEA Records, he moved to Metronome in 1991 as Marketing Director. In 1997 he became Vice President Marketing Europe at the London headquarters of BMG Entertainment International. In 1999 he moved from London to Copenhagen, first as Managing Director of BMG Denmark, and then in 2002 as the head of edel Music in the Danish capital. In 2004, together with Karin Heinrich, he founded “Heinrich & de Wall / Artist & Music Management” in Hamburg.

FKP Scorpio founder and Managing Director Folkert Koopmans on the new recruit: “With Freddie de Wall we have managed to acquire both a passionate and professional expert as COO. His diverse experience and contacts in the international music business will help us to successfully continue our expansion, both nationally and throughout Europe, and to implement the internal structures that are necessary to achieve this. We are delighted that Freddie will strengthen the FKP Scorpio team in future as operative head, and that we can tackle the approaching challenges with him.”

Freddie de Wall is also looking forward to his new task: “For many years I have observed with interest how purposefully Folkert Koopmans and his team have made FKP Scorpio into one of the most renowned and successful companies in the tough live music market, not only in Germany, but throughout Europe. He is a man of action, a great networker and impulse generator for the sector, with his very own style. I am looking forward to bringing my own experience from many years in the music business to FKP Scorpio, to taking responsibility for the operative business at a highly-professional promoter, and to consolidating and further developing the position of the company internationally.”

Founded in 1990 by Folkert Koopmans, FKP Scorpio Konzertproduktionen GmbH is now one of the largest concert organisers in Germany, and Europe’s largest festival organiser. The German FKP Scorpio festival roster currently includes Hurricane, Southside, Highfield, Chiemsee Summer, M‘era Luna, the Rolling Stone Weekender, Metal Hammer Paradise, A Summer's Tale, ELBJAZZ, the Hamburger Kultursommer and the Deichbrand Festival. Internationally, FKP Scorpio currently organises the following festivals, partly in cooperation with national partner: Northside (DK), Tinderbox (DK), Bravalla (S), Where’s The Music? (S), Greenfield (CH), Indian Summer (NL), Best Kept Secret (NL), Wiesen Festivals (AT), Air + Style (AT), Provinssi (FI) and Sideways Helsinki (FI).

Furthermore, FKP Scorpio is the tour partner for bands and artists such as the Foo Fighters, Ed Sheeran, James Blunt, Justin Bieber, Monster Magnet, Mumford & Sons, Billy Talent, Blink-182, Wilco, Céline Dion, Fleet Foxes, Faith No More, Band Of Horses, Death Cab for Cutie, Elbow, Feist, Gotye, PJ Harvey, Pixies, The Gaslight Anthem, Vampire Weekend, Revolverheld and many others. Various different show productions and the live adaption of prize-wining nature documentaries belong just as naturally to the promoter’s portfolio as festivals and concerts. FKP Scorpio also owns the Gourmet Theatre PALAZZO, which is held for around four months each year in parallel in Berlin, Hamburg, Nuremberg, Stuttgart, Graz and Vienna.

In all, the company employs more than 200 permanent staff – around half of them work at the Hamburg headquarters. As well as the office in Hamburg, FKP Scorpio also has offices in Stockholm and Helsinki, and other offices in cooperation with partners in Copenhagen, Amsterdam and Vienna.
